The ancient sound of the talharpa is a journey through time. This remarkable musical instrument, known since antiquity, brings the magic and beauty of Scandinavian legends and tales to life. The elegant bowed lyre is considered one of the most authentic instruments of the early Middle Ages.
The body of this instrument is crafted from solid ash wood, featuring a rounded shape for optimal sound resonance. Research suggests that historical instruments were not flat but hollowed from solid wood—just like this one. Ash wood itself is incredibly textured and beautiful, with a striking natural grain pattern.
The soundboard is made of resonant spruce, ensuring volume and superior acoustics.
The talharpa is treated with premium oil-wax to protect it from moisture for years while preserving its exquisite appearance.
We install our own handmade nylon strings, calibrated to mimic the tension of horsehair. The instrument is tuned in a fourths-and-fifths system, most commonly starting from the note D (D3 – A2 – D2).
Production takes approximately two weeks. Each instrument is handcrafted, so minor variations may occur between models.
The set includes: - A horsehair bow - A free waterproof fabric case with a carrying handle
